One month gym membership..

Hi, i was wondering if anyone could help. In March i signed up to a gym. When i signed up i was under the impression that i pay for a month - use a month and can stop when i like. Soon after i signed up i phoned them up to let them know that i couldnt use the gym for May so could i transfer to June, they said fine.
Now they're saying that they cant do this and i would have had to come in. I didnt take down the name of the person i spoke to by the way. So i said that i would just cancel. Now they're saying that i can cancel till July as its too late for June! So basically they're going to have 3 months (£35 per month) when ive only been about 5 times, is there anything i can do about this?
Thanks x

Be very careful with these promotions and always read the small print. It is a well known trick gyms use.0

You might be signed up to a contract0

When i signed up he actually told me that its for a month...can they do this and is there anything that i can do about it?0

What do the exact terms on the contract say?
If it specifically says that it was only for a month, write to them (recorded delivery) saying that from <insert date> you would like to cancel your membership.
You might find that you have to give one months notice from a specific date.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0
