Working out usage? Gas/Elec

Hi,

I moved into my flat in November. I am with E.On (Gas Online 10) and British Gas (Elec Click 6)

We provided meter readings when we moved in. Since then we have only provided one other reading.

E.On have taken their own readings evey 3 months.
British Gas have estimated.

I want to get far more accurate figures on my usage so that I can effectively switch.

How is the ebst way to do this?

Thank you.

It's difficult when you haven't lived somewhere for a year; you can only guess. Depending on what you use in the winter that uses electricity (heaters, tumble drier), there will probably only be a slight difference in summer use. You could read your meter today, calculate how many weeks since you moved in and work out an average weekly use in kwh. That x52 gives you an idea of annual use.

Gas is more difficult. I would work out your average monthly use in kwh over the winter months since you have actual readings for gas. Multiply that by the number of months you expect to have the heating on. Summer kwh will be much lower. If you don't have your heating on now, you should be able to get an idea of how much gas you'll use in a summer week and use that to calculate.
