back to the original thread... i wonder why you can get married anywhere in scotland but not here??? seems a bit silly to me. prob just another way for the powers that be to make money by making places buy licenses

Yes I am not sure how much the licenses are but I dont think that they are cheap!!

Try looking at arts venues, museums, community halls etc, we're hiring a hall from an arts organisation. You never know what you might find!

With regard to marrying in Scotland, if you want a civil ceremony conducted by a registrar it has to be in approved premises. If you want a religious or Humanist ceremony it can be anywhere. Humanist weddings do not contain any religious content. Our celebrant did explain the difference between Humanist and civil ceremonies but I'm getting married a week on Saturday and my brain has no space to retrieve such information!

Thanks for all the input guys. I think I was just a bit overwhelmed with all the beauty yesterday!

Anyway, we're sticking with the initial plan for now, hopefully my friends who are not bridesmaids will give my only bridesmaid a hand with preparations! x
