Lexmark Printer Problem

Hi, sorry this in longwinded but I hope someone out there can give me more advice that I received this morning from Lexmark customer services.
Basically, I bought a Lexmark X2550 all-in-one printer approx 6-8 months ago. It's worked perfectly well - up until last week.
I think there's a problem with the paper feeder. When sending documents to print, it's feeding the paper in so far, then stops. It usually does this and then feeds in gradually as it prints. But it wont feed any further. It gets stuck and I get a printer error message telling me there is a printer jam.
I've unplugged it, checked inside, turned it upside down etc in case there is a small piece of paper stuck somewhere that may just fall out, but there doesn't seem to be. (I can't really see that much of the inside of the printer.)
Lexmark customer services said they couldn't do anything unless I could provide a proof of purchase. I bought it from Morrisons (it was a good deal at the time) and didn't keep the receipt so Lexmark say they can't do anything.
What do you think? Would it be worth re-installing the printer driver or something like that? I haven't even replaced the original ink in the printer so you can see how little it's been used. I'm at the end of my tether with it - my son is working towards his GCSE's at the moment and needs a printer.
Thanks in anticipation.

Its a long shot, you could contact Morrisons to see if they can help you with a receipt.
Otherwise if you paid with credit card, you might have a record on the statement (although thats no guarantee that Lexmark will accept that but at least it would have a date on it).
But in essense it sounds like you have a paper lodged in the printer which needs to be removed. If you cant do it, you might try getting a friend or relative with techy fingers to try (mind watch out who you ask, dont want to break it).0 -
Hi
Thanks for your reply.
I don't have a credit card and paid cash for it (my stupid fault for not keeping the receipt!) I'm not sure exactly when I bought it so don't think Morrisons will be able to help.
I might take it into work and see if our computer person there can have a look at it. Other than that, it'll have to be a new printer. I'm so annoyed though.
Thanks anyway for the advice, much appreciated. There We Are Then !!0 -
Probably a small piece of paper. You don't give a location so my techie fingers cant help you there. Get a laser printer from Brother instead.0

I'm having the same problems with my printer. Keep getting 'paper jammed' message and no matter where I look I can see nothing at all.
Normally if I switch it off and unplug it, plug it in the next day it works but not so this week.At this rate things I need to print off I'm going to end up putting on my memory stick and getting the local computer shop to do it for me.
I've been told if could be a spec of dust thats upsetting the mechanism so I've cleaned it out as best I can -not the easiest of machines to get inside.
Mine's a hp deskjet 3650 - seriously thinking I should get something else but not a clue what sort........not being very good in the hi tech dept.Mary
I'm creative -you can't expect me to be neat too !

I would recomend HP Office j5780 All in one (fax, printer, copier, scanner) - got it Sep 2008, think it £69 back then - works perfect for me :-) . Not too big either which helps.0 -

You got any kids at secondary school? Get them to have the IT technician to look at it. They can fix most stuff and are only too happy to help the kids out.0

Sorry I haven't been back sooner, but thanks for all the replies. I might try Scotsbob's suggestion - I'll get my son to ask in school if that's possible.
Otherwise I'll have to give in and buy a new one - :-( - so will have a look at your suggestions then. There We Are Then !!0
