Who pays the ground rent? Tenant or Landlord

Hello,

I'm a tenant and a few months ago I accidentally opened a letter addressed to the landlord and it mentioned that the ground rent was overdue so I forwarded it to the estate agent to deal with. Today i recieved another letter addressed to the landlored, i reconginised the postmark and it cleary said through the letter:

"PAYMENT OVERDUE"

I'm i correct in thinking that the landlord is responsible for paying it, i've looked through my contract (assured shorthold) and it mentions nothing about ground rent?

Many thanks

    Hi,

As far as I am aware, its the landlords responsability. I mean I guess in theory they could ask the tennant to pay it, but it would have to be in the tennance agreement. I wouldnt worry about it.

I have never had an instance where the landloard has asked the tennant to pay it.
Debt free since July 2013! Woo hoo! The bank actually laughed when I said I have come in to cancel my overdraft.

Ground rent is for the owner of the property to pay.

Ground rent, like service charges in appartment blocks, are for the landlord to pay. Theoretically, they could include it in the rent, thus making a tenant pay for it, but then their property would look expensive compared to other comparables.

If you are expected to pay it then it should be implicitly stated in the Tenancy Agreement.
