  • Wonder when dc110 will recieve some bile for pointing out the does not add up story..
  • Sorry if I sound a bit clueless to your forum talk but what is a "troll" ?

Funnily enough I do have better things to do with my life than come onto forums and make up stories for people like you to pick the bones out of.

This is a genuine problem and all the facts are genuine.

This is the most annoying thing - the Abbey have have admitted full responsibility for their actions and we will get all our money back and probably then some by the time I have finished but that doesn't change the fact that I had to send the kids to school with barely enough in their lunchboxes to get them through today as my remaining funds are dwindling to an alarming amount, certain not 4 weeks worth!!

Thanks for all you guys out there that are giving me positive suggestions though.

Im sure this isnt a delivberate attempt to mislead or "troll" - certainly that wasnt my intention to suggest you were making it up. im sure most of the story is genuine and lets be honest we are all prone to a bit of hyperbole when upset.

Having said that some parts do not quite seem right.

I wish you luck with it.

    what is a "troll" ?

internet speak for someone who misleads or posts inflammatory, irrelevant, obscene (etc) comments to provoke reaction or an irrelevant discussion

    Hi there,

I'd go and explain the situation to manager of your local Abbey branch they should be able to put a temporary over draft on your account and come to some agreement.

Once that is done ask them for the complaints procedure and write a letter of complaint as per their complaints policy. I bet they will respond to you within the timeframe and they'll get the money in your account pretty sharpish, bit of nightmare but you could try and ask for compensation for the inconvience and stress this has caused you and ur wife.

    Hope that helps

I had something very similar happen to me, A&L paid out 3 identical standing orders instead of 1, this took me hugely overdrawn as it was 3 rent payments that left my account!!
Unfortunately your not going to like this, as it was a standing order and NOT a direct debit, you have very little leverage in getting your money back.
You are protected with a direct debit, they HAVE to by law refund you immediately, with a standing order they dont have to do anything.
I had a family to support and zero money when this happened, they did not care and gave me nothing. I had to make do. This was 14 months ago, i had to claim my money back from my ex landlord myself, it took the threat of court action to get it back. I still have not recieved any compensation from A&L and the charges i incurred during all this from being overdrawn clocked up to £1050.19p. I stopped banking with them as soon as this happened and switched banks.
I have just had to pay A&L £1050.19p to get the debt collectors off my back. Even the Financial Ombudsman sided with A&L after nearly 12months of letter writing, and they based their decision on the fact that i was Probably lieing in what i said and A&L were probably not lieing. Even though i have hard evidence.
You will be very lucky if you get anything back, data protection laws prevent the banks from reclaiming the money back just like that, the beneficiary has to agree with it.
    Good Luck
Im about to have the finanical ombudsman independantly assesed because of his shockingly bad decision to side with the bank.

Remember when you get this all sorted out the heartache and stress this has put your family through.Set up a new account at another bank or Building society(not A+L or Brad +Bing thou-same company)then move your accounts to your new provider and close all your Abbey accounts, this is the only way these idiots might learn their lesson.
I have a deep burning indifference
  • Sorry for digging this message back up from last week but I havent been able to get to a computer until today.

Our issue with Abbey taking out the cancelled standing order is now resolved; the tactic of sitting in the branch until it was resolved worked.

After roughly an hour of saying " No, it's just not good enough to say sorry, I want my money in my account today" the branch manager agreed to take £720 out of the branch funds and place into our account (the standing order will still take up to four weeks to return!) and when the standing order is retrieved the funds will go straight into their braqnch funds to offset the money they placed into our account.

We received £50 in our account there and then for the Abbey leaving us in severe hardship for 3 days and were advised by the branch manager to place a complaint against the call centre.

Thanks to all you guys that advised to sit down the branch until it's resolved - it works!!!!

I'm glad that you took action against the Abbey as the only thing that these thugs understand is the threat of legal action!
