Archos Av500

Hi

Has anyone had any experience with these? Are they really good?

My husbands birthday is coming up and I was considering getting him a Ipod but came across this which does the job of a Ipod but also a lot more. Is it good value for money?

Any help appreciated

The only input I can offer is that I bought an Archos XS202S player a couple of weeks ago as it was a darn sight cheaper than the equivalent Ipod. Very, very, impressed - build quality and battery life are excellent.

  • I have an AV500 and would definitley recommend it. I've had several Archos mp3/mediaplayers and all are well made and designed, so I'll keep on buying Archos products! The AV500 has a very good quality screen and it's a good size. It is easy to use (even my Mum doesn't have trouble with it, but still can't send text messages on her mobile). It has a lot of features, more than most people get round to actually using. It's the best purchase I've made and certainly worth the expense. It is also worth getting the extra warranty (I got mine from Dixons and pay monthly by direct debit) just in case. There is really no comparision to ipods. IMO ipods are style over substance, I can't believe they have been so popular when Archos and Creative have been making much better products for years. Ipods are less sturdy, just look on ebay for "faulty ipod". The AV500 uses the same type of hard drive as a laptop, whereas the ipod's are much smaller and more prone to failure. The ipod video screen doesn't even come close to that of the AV500. I've had several ipods too so it's not ipod-envy talking! If you decide on the AV500 your husband won't be disappointed

Yahoo groups (archosmultimedia, archos_hardware) have a lot of discussion and help for the AV500 and are worth checking out.
