Builder needed - For WOODEN FLOORING ! ! !

Options
Hi guys, we wanted our kitchen laminiated, and a room as well, the total cost of the laminated wood should be aroung £350..about 50metres worth. We got a builder a few doors away and he says he will do 1 metre of florring for £7 thats around £350 for the kitchen and room, same price as the wood. I think the price is too high and am loking for someone who will do it cheaper.

He is trusted and he is very good. But he charges quite a bit. can someone plz tell me wheer i can find someone cheaper, if u kno someone plz give me info. Any sort of help is appreciated. We wanted to do this beofer april 2nd, before my mum n dad come bak from holiday, its supposed ot be a supirse.

Btw we live in central london, waterloo.

Thanks guys!!!!! :money:

I am involved on interiors of licensed premises, the price you have been given sounds reasonable, especially in London, and if he come highly recommended, forget about possibly saving a few bob, get a decent job done so you can show it off with pride!

The other thing you have to remember in central London is that because of the congestion charge & problems with parking & getting parking tickets, many tradesmen have given up working in the centre.

Those that continue to do so will have to factor the extra cost into their labour charges.

If you have someone who is highly recommended then as colmil states, trying to save a few pounds & risking ending up with someone who won't do too good a job isn't really such a good idea. Proper workmanship shows.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

OK guys....super thanks to both of you. He is doing work right outside my house now, so im watching him :D

He is very good, his odne my neighbours garden patio, and now his doin some concrete chair up....puttin wood on top for comfy reason :P.
I just thought there will be like websites or organisations who would send out builders. But anyways Thanks. Ill get him in the next few weeks as he is fully booked.

The good thing about him is he charges per metre he lays down, better than per hour or something, coz then they love to waste time n say 'cud ya make us another cup of tea love'...lol.

    Thanks again guys, much appreciated.

If you want a proper job with laminate flooring, it involves removing the skirting boards first, rather than putting some beading round the edge to cover the expansion gap. That might be something you could discuss.
Time is an illusion - lunch time doubly so.

No strippin or anything required. he knows what he is doing. My house was built about 3 years ago, everythin new, jus the kitchen n rooms didnt have normal pine wood, the kitchen floor is that laminate carpet thingy, lol i forgot wat its called, its blue n rubber like. Anyways, that 10mm gap is for wood changin size or somethin icnt reember wat he sed but he showed me as i went into his house, so it not a load of crap. Anyways looks like im stuck with him + the price tag

    thanks guys for the help.

I'd be happy to pay £7 per square metre, especially if he is as good as you say. I was quoted £12 per square metre!!

If you want to save the £350 fitting cost, then why not do it yourself! You can now buy fitting kits including a jigsaw, tamping block, hammer and spacers. Many types of new laminate flooring just slot together. ;)

K thanks....its not gona be done properly will it if i do it myself. im kinda scard incase i go wrong, i kno the clippin is easy but all that 10mm thing is confusing. Plus he can do it in 2 days MAX - thats a kitchen and room, my kitchen is quite large aswell.

Gonna try ask if he'll do it for £5 per metre if not he shud do it def for £6. Ill let u guys kno how it all goes. :j

Sorry Lazymoezy but to try and push a builder for further discount when you already have a fantastic price, especially for London, is very poor in my eyes. This guy is good and trustworthy as you say and is charging a very reasonable rate, pay him what he asks. I've said it before aren't builders allowed to make a decent living then ?

BTW I charge £11 per sq m and further fees for scotia mouldings and finishes and I live in Wales

make a living LOL....the guy made thousands of pounds in the last month, the jobs he does around my area, he gets voer the top for it. HE IS MY NEIGHBOUR, therefore, a discount is something i shud be expecting, he will put the price down to £6 anyway i know he will. People always give a higher price. I wont push him anymore, it the fact that im his neighbour and get on with his daughters, sons, wife etc AND i found his cat the other day :p lol.
