Housework rota

My wife has started work full time and we are struggling keeping on top of the house. Has anyone got a suggested chores rota so we can try and get on top of things? We seem to spend all our time in the evenings doing housework/cooking!
Had a look at flylady, but can't make head nor tail of it!

Jump in to the Flylady thread, and you'll be sent a PM explaining how it works
Take a read of the first post on the thread. Every evening, someone posts a list of suggested jobs for the next day. They are in 3 levels, and you can do as much or as little as you like. As you get into the swing, you'll probably find you can do more and more, and start earning stars :j

Fly lady is the one I use, and the one that keeps me on top of our chores. Covers the basics then you can add things that are of more relevance to your family.
It really is quite simple when you get going, so it's worth trying to get your head round the instructions.0 -
I use Chorebuster as it allows me to personalise the things I need to do round my house and also to assign tasks to people so that it makes life a bit fairer. I found FlyLady really really helpful to get started into a routine but found that I needed different things cleaned at different times so someone here recommended Chorebuster and I find it great, you get an email weekly and daily to tell you the jobs that need to be done, you can print the list off and cross them off when they are done. Best of all you can set the frequency of jobs, i.e. clean the oven once a month, clean the kitchen every 2 days etc etc. Works well for me! Good luck, its hard keeping on top of housework but I find a little often is the best approach, otherwise you are knackered and you have a clean and sparkly house for exactly 1 day!!0

You'll be pushed to beat Penny's record on stars though... she's finished EVERY list EVERY week for the last three months :A0 -
I like that Chorebusters. QUick and easy to use...I couldn't get on with Flylady either...just wasn't for me.
Thanks for posting that one Bunny 200!

We do something when we can. It means the house isn't perfect and there are some days when the sheets DEFINITELY needs to be changed but we're tired after long days of work and it's mostly only us in the house.
If you have children, it won't work but if there are only 2 adults, one of you will get tired of the mess and muster some energy to give it a clean to make it habitable again0 -
Get a cleaner for a couple of hours a week. Worth every penny!0

All the years I worked full-time I used to make loads of lists - all of which were abandoned after a few days! I know exactly what you mean about just managing to cook and eat, and that's it. I tried to follow the example of a lovely Aunt who kept a postcard up with her weekly routine on it. At best tho' I'd assign a room to a day and just try and do something in there if possible. That way the chaos was just about controllable. Now I'm retired and DH is semi-retired we tend to decide we'll each spend half an hour or so doing housework and mostly the place is reasonably presentable. And really, that's all I need!Resolution:

Get a cleaner for a couple of hrs and spend that quality time with your family.

I wrote the day's of the week on a piece of paper and allocated a room to each day. I don't always stick to it but one thing I have learnt from Flylady is even if you only spend 15 mins doing something it's better than nothing. And to do it as quickly as possible. Even if you just flick the duster round in 5 mins you can at least say you dusted your lounge.
You won't get on top of things in one day or even one week. Start small and build on that. Even if its just sorting out a load for the WM in the evening before you crash on the sofa.I have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knifeLouise Brooks
