    unadopted roads aren't all bad you can keep a SORN'ed car on the road and travel at whatever speed you want to without fear of prosecution. Our street is unadopted and each house owns the land outside to the middle of the road - our deeds state that you can do what you want with the land as long as there's room for a horse and cart (written in 1860) to pass down the middle!

    Thanks for that input stumpjumper et al. In a way I am beginning to think that we might just leave the road as it is now. From what I have read so far, it seems that unadopted roads have their own advantages too.
