How do you get around it....??

Try this, you can paste your code into it and it'll obfusicate it.
    http://isnoop.net/tools/obfuscate.php

It basically converts whatever you input into a string of html characters. Quite easy to reverse though, but it's another hurdle to over come.

If you're worried about images, you can use server-side code to serve up the image, but that's getting more complex and you need the right setup. Stick with the above, should be enough.

Totally agree Ian. I don't know of any HTML code hiding tool that doesn't have a get around. I can't think of any valid reason why most people would want to hide their HTML code. It's against the way the web works.

In reply to sco0ter. Try a search on Google, it took me about 30 seconds to find the deobfuscater for the tool that you mentioned.

Just use the link I mentioned above. It's quick, easy and simple. People can get round it if they want, but upon doing a "View Source", to the open eye it won't make sense. The user would have to go to the measure of translating it, which I can't see anyone being bothered to do.

I think what the above were saying is that no method will be perfect, all you can do is make it more difficult for anyone wanting to see your username. But for simply hiding a username in an image link just use the link I posted.

You can paste the whole image tag, or just the path of the image into the textbox, and the website will translate it for you.

Why do you want to hide your username?

Anyway, doesn't photobucket have your username in the url of images? If you wanted to hide that, how would the browser know where to find the image

You could always try imageshack... it doesn't have any identifying text in the URL. Or else you could always host the images locally, on the server your page is hosted on Edit Oh wait, eBay, well, the imageshack suggestion should still work

I might use it to put my pics of my family in, not that they're anything interesting!! Well hmmm, maybe one day haha (only joking!)

Well, in that case couldn't you create a seperate Photobucket account just for your eBay photos?

True, can see where you're coming from. I guess if you are paranoid about what you have in your Photobucket, then as mentioned just create two accounts, one for eBay stuff, and the other for more personal things.

Still though, in perspective the likelyhood of someone targetting you most likely isn't very high, and all they're gonna see are your other eBay auctions pics (the OP did say it wasn't used for family stuff yet). I confess I've been intrigued and looked in someone's photo bucket before (they are public after all), but it didn't mean much to me. And if you're really worried about the pics being seen, then a photobucket isn't the solution in the first place (unless it has levels of security/access).

Obfusicating the code (as I said) isn't a sure way of fixing things, it just provides an extra hurdle to overcome making it more of a hassle to anyone.
