Help needed? Difference if any between Notice of Default Sums and Default?

Hi,
I would be really very grateful if anyone could give me some advise on my situation.
I have a store card with GE Money which I always pay the full payment over their telephone banking system. This month I basically forgot to pay it off (my only excuse is that I'm trying to organise my wedding and the paperwork was hidden under a pile of to-do lists!) and have received a new statement accompanied by a letter that's headed " Notice of Default sums". It asks me to pay £12 late paymeny fee, but my question and worry is will this effect my credit rating and will it show on my credit score? I immediately payed the full amount owed to them and have requested a free 30day trail credit check, but they have to send me out a pin before I can access it.
I'm a bit worried because once we're married we're hoping to move house and it will be my first application for a mortgage.
Thanks in advance for anyone that can enlighten me!
