Natwest advantage gold and the like

I recently check my online account to find a charge of £7.33 that had put me over my overdraft limit.

When i queried this with Natwest they said the date they take the payment for my advantage gold account has been changed and as such they've took a smaller amount than normal but on an earlier date to coincide with my statement.

This put me past my overdraft limit and means I will now incur a charge according to them. They said they sent the information in the pre-advice slip with my last statement. I no longer have this as I keep the statement but throw the advice slip as it normally just lets me know if there charging me or not.

I advise you all to check your accounts to see if this has happened to you.

I don't have an Advantage Gold account, despite attempts to be sold one numerous times, but thanks for the warning. I was concerned that something like this would happen.

Its happened to me today too !!

I checked my account today and it was overdrawn by £5 as they had taken the advantage gold fee out. It normally comes out on 30th.

I rang them this morning to be told they had changed the date of the account fees, conversation goes like this:-
Me:- So you've changed the date without telling me and put me overdrawn

Natwest:- Well you would have been advised with your last statement
    .
    Me:- I'm paperless so I don't get a statement
    .
    Natwest:- Oh I see

Me:- I thought you were supposed to advise me in advance of charges on the account - that was the terms of going paperless - you have my e mail address ?

Natwest:-n Well we will be advising you but we don't at the moment

Me:- So you have'nt advised me then - despite that being the trems of going paperless ?

Natwest:- Errr...No we haven't. With hindsght perhaps we should have done.

Me:- So you've broken the trems of the agreement ?

Natwest:- Well um we will be advising you in the future

Me:- So next month you'll be trying to charge me for going overdrawn this month ?

Natwest:- Well, I think you'll need to speak to someone to make sure it does'nt happen.

Me:- Aell i'll leave it with you to make sure it does'nt then...GOODBYE !!

    UNBELIEVABLE !!!

If you just 'left it with them', nothing will happen,. You need to log a complaint if you want to get anything that looks vaguely like a refund or apology.

Is there not somewhere on online banking that tells you about future charges??

I'd phone up the branch once they are open to check they received your letter and have logged the complaint/added it to the existing one.

    Re post 6.

Yes there is a section on the statement section that lets you look at advised charges that are due to be added to account. There's nothing in there at all, so they obviously have'nt advised
