Help Needed! NIghtmare with potential new car

Hi
I'm hoping that you may be able to help me.
I have been looking for a new car recently, and found one via autotrader at a large motor superstore (which for the moment will remain nameless). I phoned last week, the guy seemed nice, and explained about the car, answering my questions. I got suckered in with the "you can pay £300 to secure the vehicle" and if you don't want to go ahead will have the option to cancel. I said I obviously needed to see the car, and they were going to take it to burnley (140 miles from where I live!).
Anyway, today the stuff arrived complete with my receipt, and besides being invoiced for things I wasn't told about such as HPI check, Plates (it isn't a new car) and a delivery charge (?) I went to work to find out that I may be up for possible redundancy
What a day.
Phoned them up to explain the situation and that in the circumstances i can't go ahead, only to be told I can't cancel unless I go to see the vehicle. So now have to do a 300 mile (almost) round trip to say "no, I don't want it". They also want me to get a redundancy letter from work - got to be joking right?! Have gone through the terms and conditions (which they didn't tell me at the time) which say they may keep it to reduce their losses... but the car has been and still is being advertised on the net everywhere.
Can anyone help? I'd have thought under sales of goods act there should have been a cooling off period in their terms and conditions (there has been on every other new car I've bought), but none are there.
Really need some advice.
Thanks
Vicky

Options seem to be consider it £300 lost.
Or to write to them asking for a refund pointing out you will take them to court if they do not reply within 14 days, then go through with it. See https://www.moneyclaim.gov.uk/csmco2/index.jsp Your point would seem to be there was a clear verbal agreement you had the option to cancel as you had not seen the vehicle (and would not have left a deposit otherwise).0 -
I assume you refer to MotorPoint?0

I would guess so, only Motorpoint would pull a stunt like that, shame, they used to be a great company.0 -

Not sure someone else might know but would DSR come into effect here? I know it is a deposit.0
