Word 2007 problem... .

I have Word 2007 on XP; working on an essay today, my laptop told me that Word was having a problem reading from such-and-such a location; it then told me it would try to save everything and close down, which it did. Starting Word up again, I hadn't lost any of my essay, although three paragraphs have been transformed into a series of '222222222222222222s'. Does anyone have any idea how I can turn the 222s back into text please...?!

As an update, here is the text:-

If you highlight the above, you can see that something is there; it's just not readable text for some reason... .

Cant see what you tried to post there.

Sounds like its corrupted the file - you cant turn those characters back onces its crashed and opened up.

did it come up with option to autorecover old file on starting up agian?

Check if you autorecovery on by going to Tools->options->Save and the "Save Autorecovery" should be checked.

The location of the recovery folder should be something like

C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Word\ (hiddenn system folder so you need to change your view settings to see it)

If you look in that location - you might be lucky and find the old version of the file.

I tried to cut and paste the series of 222s from my document. On notepad it just shows up as it does on here - some sort of blank line, whereas on Word it's a line of 222s, and previously it was text!

I do have autorecovery checked but nothing present in the recovery folder unfortunately...
