Good Lord doddsy - what kind of car do you have ! that sounds like a huge premium ...
I paid about £600 for my first years insurance (on a Metro though). This was only a few years ago so I would think you need to try another broker. I know how you feel about the rural area, I was on to driving lessions the day after my 17th.
My parents got around the money milestones by making me get a part time job and pay for them myself....
