I am at present unable to open any jpegs sent to me on Outlook??? If i save them to "my docs" I can then view them without problem....
I can also open jpegs on the internet without any problem.
Any pointers welcome........ I have quicktime player 5.0.1.10. installed as well as paint shop pro. Pics / jpegs arrive in a quicktime format.... or at least a blue Q is displayed. It has worked fine previously. I am under the impression a recent auto update may have upset my settings but do not know how to re-set my preffered programme for viewing said pics. I am currently running XP.
Bit of a newbie to computers so any help gretefully recieved

Its a two step process for most folks.....
To See All File Extensions
1. On the Tools menu in My Computer or Windows Explorer, click Folder Options.
2. Click the View tab.
3. Clear the Hide extensions for known file types check box.
To change file associations
1. Right-click a file with the extension whose association you want to change, and then click Open With.
2. In the Open With dialog box, click the program where you want the file to open, or click Browse to locate the program that you want.
3. Select the Always use the selected program to open this kind of file check box.
Et voila !!0 -
Ta for the msg lincs but no joy!
When i right click on the item there is no "open with" in the box/list that pops up.
Thought about that way previously but as I said I can open jpegs on the internet or in the C drive without any probs. It is (seems) specific to Outlook.I save so I can spend.0 -
Try holding down the shift key when you right click on the file and the "open with" option should be there.0

Hmmm in Windows Explorer in WinXP, there should be an 'Open With...' option without the need to hold down any other key. It isn't in the first section of options though - on mine at least it is further down, in amongst the 'Scan with..' and 'Add to Archive...' options.
Mayne there is an option to disable 'Open with', but I don't recall one. ???0 -
Thanx for your input but still no joy....
Holding the shift key down made no differance at all.
The box displayed shows
Open
Print
Save as
Quick view (this is in faint text)
Copy
Remove
View (which relates to how the attachment is displayed)

And you are running Windows XP???? Very odd! ???
Anyway, take a look and see if this download will help.
Or the manual method:
The Tools menu in any Windows Explorer window has a Folder Options submenu. Click the File Types tab and scroll down to the type you want to change (jpeg in your case).
Click the 'Restore' button to reset to defaults, or click 'Change' to choose which program to use to open a specific file type.0 -
Sounds like an Outlook config setting rather than a file association problem since the jpegs are opening OK when saved to document folder.
Can't remember for Outlook 'cos I'm not at work at the mo, but in OE, Security Settings there's a check box for 'Block Images and other External Content in HTML mail.'
Maybe similar in Outlook ???

Probably a combination of the two to be honest. Sounds like QT has set itself to be the default viewer anyway but yes you are right - the Outlook security settings will kick in. Dunno why they would have changed though ???0

I've got a feeling you're doing that on the jpg on the email attachment rather than a jpg image on your PC0

As I said previously I am not the best with PC's so cut me a bit of slack as I run through thus please.......
The problem is only with Outlook attachments which when saved to file are ok.
I am now having a problem finding the security settins section mentioned. Any chance of a run through on where to find them...........I save so I can spend.0
