N. Ireland to Denver

I haven't a clue where to start to get the best deal. Basically, I need to be in Denver for the first weekend in August. I live in N. Ireland so can travel from Belfast or Dublin (via one of the English/Scottish airports in necessary). Acommodation will be easy to sort as it's a conference I'm going to and the organisers have a deal with a local hotel.
I would really appreciate if anyone could advise the best route to take - Belfast-New York-Denver? Dublin-Atlanta-Denver? other? I have been told so many different things and I honestly haven't a clue where to begin. I'm funding the trip myself so obviously cost is a factor. There will be two of us travelling. I have two small children at home that my husband will have the pleasure of having on his own while I'm away so I think realistically I would plan to head out on the Wednesday night/Thursday morning and leave Denver again on the Monday/Tuesday of the next week.
Any help or advice would be much appreciated - you have no idea how little I know about this sort of thing!
Thanks.

I did a quick search, and the cheapest I can find the both of you is Opodo, for £1,268 leaving from Belfast International for Denver on the Thursday 30th July, and returning on Monday 3rd August.
Have a look at Kayak, eBookers, Travelsupermarket, Expedia, etc, and play around with different combinations of dates as well as flights leaving from both Belfast and Dublin.0 -
Thanks Marty, much appreciated. We are getting together a night next week (with one or two bottles of wine!) to thrash the whole thing out. There just seems to be so many different ways of doing it but hopefully a few hours will get it sorted.0

The easiest way is to fly Belfast City - Heathrow - Denver on a United tickted flight (£608pp). However, if you can go easyJet or Ryanair over to London, the same Heathrow-Denver flight (United) is available for over £100 less (=£504pp). There are slightly cheaper indirect flights (especially Northwest and US, via Minneapolis and Charlotte respectively), though not enough less to make it worth using them over United.0
