Do Ebay/Paypal do this?

A friend has just contacted paypal to register an item as not received. She did not escalate the dispute to a paypal claim, but the seller did.

Now my friend says that the seller states (via email message)that because she registered the item as not received, she the seller, has had her paypal account blocked for the duration of the dispute.

Is this correct, she asked me, and I have never heard of it before.

She probably hasn't had it blocked, just the money frozen which means she is in negative figures so if she wants to buy something, has got to restore it to neutral first. Tell your friend not to give in to the seller, if she starts trying to get her to close the dispute.

Like bowling for Gold says paypal sort of ringfence the necessary funds in case seller loses dispute.

It seems an odd thing for the seller to have done though, go to dispute before trying to liaise quietly with the buyer, I wonder what they thought they were going to achieve?

Like Bowling says, tell your friend to do nothing until she either gets her refund or the goods. Meanwhile she also ought to keep an eye on paypal to see if the status updates, some people find paypal emails arrive too late to be of any use!

    Thanks for the advice.

No, my friend had emailed the seller before raising the dispute, but the seller didnt respond, and then the seller responded via ebay and had raised it to a claim before contacting my friend.

Sounds to me like the seller was a bit rash in escalating the dispute and is now paying the price...just do nothing until paypal sort it out and let it be a lesson to her Communication is the best form of mediation.

if the seller has had the accpount blocked i doubt that it would be casued by one dispute. maybe there are other people that have had problems with the seller so paypal have stopped them in there tracks til they sort themselves out
