Hi,
I don't know if anybody can help but i thought that i would ask. I used to bank with nataionwide over a year ago and i do not use the account it was opened but there was nothing in it. My husband went away and had two pay a work cheque in to the bak at this point. The day it cleard i went to the bank and £300 was taken out and i could not get to the bank ontime to check it out and the telephone banking would not help me as i had not confirmed but telephone banking details as i had not used it in a while. The next morning i went to the bank and noticed another £300 missing from the account. Total £600. After speaking to them they advised me to speak to the fraud people which i did in the branch at the time as the police no longer deal with this. The fraud people advised me that the account had been cloned and that the balance on the account had been checked everyday all over the place.Once they agreed that it was fraud they advised me to keep the account open to see if this happens again. I kepted the acount open bu i took all the money out of the account in the branch but i had to explain to them what had happened before they would let me take the money out. The account then went overdrwan through not fault of my own beacuse they advised me to keep the account open so they coud trace the transation but then i have been getting charges 2 overdraft fees every month. It is now up to £300. I have recently received a letter from a debt collecter chasing the debt. Please if anybody can advise where i stand on thisdebt or what letter i should sent to the bank or the debt people it would be a great help.
Thanks in advance.

That is terrible. I am surprised they are not cancelling the charges on account due to the fraud. Have you spoken to them? I would write to the head offices and explain it all. I am sure they will be sympathetic.
I had a similar experience with my account at the Clydesdale Bank. I phoned Carphone Warehouse after I lost my contract mobile telephone. I thought I had insurance.
The advisor I spoke with said it had been cancelled by me but he may be able to restart it but needed my switch card number. I got the card out my drawer where it is kept and gave him the number, expiry, security code etc and then he said oh I am sorry I cannot activate the insurance so you will have to buy a new phone.
That was the end of the call. But, what happened a few days later was Argos wrote to me saying my order had been cancelled. When I phoned Argos - they said multiple orders had been placed on their website using my card, all for home delivery to the London area. After the fifth order, they cancelled them all and refunded the money back to my account. I believe the operator at Carphone did this, or passed my details on. I advised the police of this, but nothing ever happended. The strange thing is Carphone Warehouse is based in London - it's too much of a co-incidence and the items were all to be delivered to a London address. That card is not used at all by me - I use another account as my main account so it could not have been cloned or saw by anyone else.
Fraud is a terrible thing to have to go through - I hope you get a result.0 -
For nationwide issues write a letter with the title "Formal Complaint" and send by registered post to:

When you write your letter can you get someone to proof read it before you send it as your original post was not very easy to read.I'm not cynical I'm realistic
