Got a dishwasher? HUGE savings!

Depends where you are. I used to live in the south east : horrible river water, very hard, wouldn't dream of using dishwasher without salt. Now live in north west, nice soft water from up in Cumbria, salt's a waste of time if you use a 3-in-1 tablet.I really must stop loafing and get back to work...0

I live near Doncaster, and stopped using salt after my dishwasher was 6 months old. Six months later, the element packed up, and the Bosch engineer said it was down to not using salt. The tablets don't cut it.0

I live in a hard water area. Only ever used the salt that came with the machine. I use 4 in 1 tabs and my dishwasher is nearly 5 yrs old. Maybe I'm just lucky
:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:0 -
Costco do a 25 kilo bag that says it is for a water softener on the bag. I have been using it in my dishwasher for at least 3 years and have only just bought another bag. Seem to remember it was £3.50 or was it a fiver.
At that price who cares. It's certainly not supermarket prices, and definately does the same job.0 -
Thanks OP! I live in a hard water area in the South of England (or at least I think it is a hard water area, how would i find out??) and my top shelf stuff doesnt ever get really clean unless I keep the salt topped up loads, it isnt cheap at tescos and corner shops so I will pop to my local hardware store and stock up me thinks!! thanks!Official DFW Nerd 210

For all those with a requirement for salt (100kg+) for water softeners etc, then we use a company called ensign who will deliver it to your door for 38p/kg (for 100KG). They are great for us as they still ship in 10kg bags and they have handles, so they are easy to carry!

We stock up once a year...flipping hard water south east!

Try asda smart price dishwasher tablets, they work out much cheaper than 3/4/5 in ones even after adding the salt and rinse aid.
Been using asda own brand for years now always worked fine. Then they suddenly shot up in price, but some smart price ones appeared at the old price (around 6p per tablet) they are exactly the same.0 -

I go along with bigglesinc about using only half a tab, saved me a few bob over the last year.first got the idea of this site money saving old style I think.Only use a full tab when the machine is full and the casserole dish and baking trays need a bit extra cleaning.Saved over £40 so far.Be ALERT - The world needs more LERTS0 -
I buy 16 lemon or orange dishwasher tablets in our local £ shop. I'm not paying £4 a box in Sainsbury's for Finish! Luckily our water seems fine and we've had no problems with the dishwasher- OH runs it on empty with a tiny bit of bleach and a tablet to clean it every few months and it's doing fine
