Air Asia Connecting Flight

I have a concern. We are travelling with Air Asia from Penang to KL and arrive in KL at 3.45pm. Our Flight from KL to Stanstead is at 5pm. I had assumed that this would be treated as a connecting flight so my luggage would get automatically transferred to my London flight. From speaking to the call centre it seems this isnt the case and I need to collect my luggage and check in again!!! Clearly I wont have enough time to do this as the check in desk shuts 60 mins before departure.

I may need to change my flight from Penang to KL and incur the extra charges but that means arriving at 10am in KL i.e sitting around for 7 hours in the airport with one 4 year old and 15 month old prior to boarding a 13 hour flight. Doesnt seem very tempting!

Has anyone arrived at KL after a short haul journey to start their long haul flight? What was the procedure with the luggage. is it worth me trying to speak to the office in KL when I arrive there are do I just have to take the 10am route?

Any thoughts?!

TIA

Eek. Air Asia DO NOT do connecting flights (that's why you couldn't book Penang to London). And 1 hour 15 is never enough, so you have no option but to take the earlier flights. The low cost terminal is a bit of a chicken shack terminal. You have to pick your luggage up and wheel it all the way around and check-in again, and there is nothing you can do about it. And it's not going to be fun with kids in tow.

I did notice when using it a couple of weeks ago that there is a new Tunes hotel (Air Asia low cost hotel) that has opened just next door to the low cost terminal (http://www.tunehotels.com/) - why not see if they have a special on for your dates?
  • I agree with Moonchild, you have no option but to take the earlier flight. I have flown this route in the past and there are general delays of 15 - 30 mins. The staff with Air Asia are excellent. You will have to transfer from the KLCC (low cost air terminal) by transfer bus to the international airport which takes about 20mins. The airport is very clean and the staff very helpful, but with two kiddies in tow a long time at the airport. Not heard of Tunes hotel but a good suggestion.

Note - almost right if they were transferring to Malaysia Airlines, but the Air Asia KL-Stansted flight also departs from the Low Cost Terminal, so no long bus journey required as you leave from the same terminal you arrive at.

Fab! It's new, so no personal recommendation, but should be clean and comfortable. But not sure what you are going to see and do in the area as it's very much an airport hotel. Appeared to be some kind of shopping complex across the road... erm, ..!

I wanted a hotel near the airport to get myself and things together before we fly to LAX via Singapore. Looks perfect for me. And for £10 you can't complain!

    Thanks

I posted a reply on the other thread that you started. Make sure that the hotel knows when you are checking in, because Your room will be held for your arrival until 1000 hours following the first night of your reservation - after which the booking will be deemed cancelled.
