Self-Catering v All-Inclusive

My wife and I are planning a weeks holiday in Benidorm (22-29 June).

I was last in Spain 3 years ago and went all-inclusive but still ended up spending a fair bit after the drinks tasted really weak and food wasnt the best.

Although we are planning on letting out hair down and enjoying the nightlife there will be days spent going to Terra-Mitica and other places for some sight-seeing.

I was wondering if it would be better going for an All-Inclusive deal or just going Self Catering. I guess it would save a few hundred quid initially on the holiday but I dont know what the cost of everything is over there now. How much would I expect to pay on average, if I went self catering, for 2 adults per day.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

With the £ being weak, Spain isn't cheap anymore, pretty much the same as here now, so probably best to get some firm prices for both options and decide from there.

we went to Costa Dorada in April of this year and for a bottle of smirnoff ice it was 5 euros, cokes were just under 2 euros, a tin of tuna was nearly 4 euros, so i would say go all incl,.

I would say google whichever AI hotel you are thinking of and look at the reviews/comments it throws up. AI, although they can be right for some people, arenotorious for poor, weak drinks, bland food with little choice and/or buffets that are recycled and have seen better days.

Although I am not dissing Benidorm, I would say that AI hotels in this region which is known for being cheap and cheerful, are more likely to be at the poorer end of the scale.

One of the joys of being abroad is eating foreign food, but I have to say when I went to Benidorm, basically an overnight visit, I didn't find any foreign food. I was very impressed by the old town though and would def go back. I'm told that the restaurants out there are suffering and do have deals on. When I was in Barcelona in January, the drink i.e. wine and even port was cheap enough, beer was a bit more expensive about the same as here and the spirits seemed more expensive. (In both shops and bars.) The prawns were cheap for self catering, but things like butter, olive oil, etc were not that cheap although i don't suggest you pack those in your suitcase!!

    hi
benidorm is still reasonably cheap, BUT there are still lots of 1 euro pints out there but I have to agree it tastes like water, in the night clubs the shorts are 5-6 euros and a pint 3-4 euros
in my opinion the best all inclusive in benidorm is the flamingo oasis hotel but please as some one said read tripadvisor.
I am sure you will love benidorm. Have a great time
