Keeping journals - anyone do it?

Just curious. If all goes well and Sprog does arrive OK later in the year, I was thinking of doing something similar to my mum..she kept written diaries for each year from 1980-83ish. They make fascinating reading now.
I'm giving serious thought to starting one now on the run up - I figure it'd be a fun "look back" in a few years, and as and when Sprog is old enough, maybe they'll find it as interesting as I did. Plus it's a good vent for those things you think of , but never remember later on. And a source of some comfort to look back and think "oh wow..we've really moved on." and read about things that went on when I was too young to recall, and how they worked around them.
Shame of it is my disability means I can't handwrite it..it has to be digital, but...is that a drawback? Who knows what 10 years down the line will hold.
I suppose I could keep digital pics and vids as well..things like grandmother who is now in her 90's and mildly gaga, that sprog may never really get to know..I think that'd be nice.
Or am I just getting soft? Myself and OH have a subdomain on our website set up for it as well to record more general events and her feelings on it..same thing, different method, but..I prefer the personal approach..more memoirs than notes.

no its cute! I had a diary during most of my teenage years, and i still sometimes at night put an entry in it but i should imagine it was last year that i did that! I mainly did it to vent out feelings but also to read back when i was older. I think it will actually be a help to my future children as its filled with, "why am i just so ugly, no one will ever want me" kind of feelings! That they might be able to relate to.
I also wrote silly things like, "this is the last thing i am going to write aged 14 years old" ha. I was a weird teenager
It would be good to keep a diary with pictures and videos so you can talk about them. I say go for it.0 -
I do it for holidays, even if it's just a long weekend....can't keep up with it every day!!Praying at the church of MSE should be compulsory!

I think this is a lovely idea.
I don't see the problem with it being digital - just make sure you have a backup!

I used to keep one daily, for about 20 years. Then I was in a new relationship, and he read my diary, 'because it was there'. I felt betrayed, and have never kept one since. One day the clocks will stop, and time won't mean a thing
Be nice to your children, they'll choose your care home0 -
The thing is, this one is meant to be read, so that wouldn't be an issue..:)0

I kept one for a couple of years when my daughter was a toddler... It's nice to be able to look back now and see when she did things... She's only 5 now but it's amazing how quickly the memories fade even when you're positive you'll remember every detail...A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... I do pity my husband though, he's the one to suffer the hormones...My Fathers Daughter wrote: »Krystal is so smart and funny and wonderful I am struck dumb in awe in her presence.

It's a lovely idea, as Krystaltips says the memories do fade really quickly and they change so much. I had wanted to take a photo of my dd every day to track the changes and regret not actually doing it now. A journal would be a great thing for you all to look back on. Doesn't matter that it's electronic at all, although as prev said do back it up, incase anything goes wrong with your pc.Booo!!!0

It's a wonderful idea! If you can, print everything out and keep it. It will be lovely to sit and look through and, if it's passed down the family, your descendants will thank you for generations. Just think how you would treasure it if you had the diary of a Victorian ancestor!0

the subsite is a blog..:) For my own personal bit, I'm using my Google Docs, so I have a copy I can use anywhere, and save to the PC as well/share online.0
