Cuprinol Total not drying - why???

I firstly treated my hardwood patio table with Cuprinol Restorer, which worked a treat. Then I sanded the table top and lightly cleaned with white spirit - the table looked like new. I applied Cuprinol Total for garden furniture (approx £14 for small tin or either 0.75 or 1 litre). This was two days ago and still the table is not touch dry. The information on the tin states that it should be touch dry in 4 hours and recoatable in 16 hours. This is most definitely not the case!!

Has anyone else encountered this issue?
I am completely at a loss for what to do now. I spent many hours prep'ing the table - will I have to now strip the table all back again? If so, any advice on what to do to remove the Cuprinol Total to leave my table like new again?

Total dispair

Where are you trying to dry it? Outside in the sun, with a gentle breeze? Or inside a closed, dark, damp room?

After painting it was outside in the sun for approx. 3 hours, then I put it in the garage over night. The second night I again took the table outside in the evening sun (which was quite warm both evenings) for approx. 3 hours again. The garage is dark but it is dry and not at all cold.

I have had something similar happen (although not with garden furniture) when I painted some natural wood storage from IKEA.

It was being painted with some satin paint and it stayed wet for days. After a lot of head scratching, I worked it out that the unit had been waxed and that was stopping the paint from drying.

Could it be that your table has been treated with varnish or an oil which is not compatible with the Cuprinol product? Have a read of the back of the tin to see if it gives you any hints.

As part of the preparation I firstly used nitromors to remove the previous year's Ronseal oil product as it had a slight varnish finish. Then as the tin suggested I used the Cuprinol restorer which is oxalic acid as they suggested so the wood was left as new. There couldnt have been any previous product residue left in it after that!
I contacted Cuprinol, but they weren't very helpful, simply listed possible suggestions that I was quickly able to rule out :(
