Unknown payments

I’ve been trying to sort out my other half’s finances recently and I’ve discovered that she’s been paying two payments of about £5 a month for a long while (as in years). Now, she knows one of these is for insurance for a monitor that is old and no longer in use . She cancelled the payments and one of the companies has written to her saying that she owes them money.
Two questions:
Thanks for any help!
Two questions:
- Is the only thing she can do for the monitor insurance cancel it and pay what she owes from when she stopped paying to whenever it gets cancelled?
- How can we find out what the second payment was for. Ring up the bank? Can they give her more than just the company name?
Thanks for any help!

1. You should let the company know when you cancel the direct debit, otherwise the insurance is still in place. I think you still probably owe them the money.
2. Phone the company, not the bank. If you don't know who it is, post the name as it appears on your statement and someone will be able to tell you who they are.0
