digital tv reception in bedroom ?

I'm spending lots of time at mums these days and need to make it feel more like home !
Mum has Sky and I would like to watch it on the tv in the bedroom. We do not watch the same programmes so will I need 'multi-room' sky? Trouble is maybe decorating etc there and do not know which room to have it in. Can 'multi room' be easily moved to another room.
Also wondered about the aerial type thing that can pick up the sky reception from the tv that has the box. You still have to watch the same channel though I think ?
I'd be grateful for any help and advice for the best and cheapest options
Many thanks

Dont know much about multiroom, but finally plucked up courage and bought an av sender from argos, £26.99 and it works really well unless you use the microwave!Old Faithful we roam the range together,
Old Faithful in any kind of weather,
When the round up days are over,
And the Boulevard’s white with clover,
For you old faithful pal of mine.0 -
Watching TV on the microwave is never going to work!0

The clear issue with multi room and possibly changing the room you watch it in is that you will need a sky cable coming into that room (usually from outside) so it's not the most portable solution.
This is, however, the only solution which will let you both watch different channels at the same time.0 -

If you want all the facilities and channels of Sky then you would need multiroom.
If you are just after the free to air channels then you could get a cheap box off ebay and use that. Or go for a Freesat box.
However, which ever you choose you will need to (I suspect) to upgrade your LNB - the sticky out bit on the sat dish - to one that can cope with more than one cable.
For a AV sender then yes you would have to watch the same channel.
If you have a decent aerial signal you might want to think about Freeview, although you don't get the same channels that you would on Sky.

Has your mum got a standard digibox or Sky+?
Is it possible to see where the cables go onto the LNB on the dish to see if you have any spare outputs?Dave. :wave:0 -
Mum has a standard sky dish. Many moons ago she had the cabling set up so she has sky in her bedroom and the porch ( to call it a conservatory would be too posh but its lovely sunny spot ). Same sky channel showing in all.
I will need to choose whatever is easiest as any change is seen as a big upheaval to Mum these days. She's had this outlook on things for ages now but having a little stroke recently has made things worse. Trouble is lots of things need to be done to the house but thats for another thread eh ?
I may contact the guy who did the cabling for her. He did a great job.
Is there much cabling involved with sky multi-room?
P.s. reception for analogue is DREADFUL !!!! got big booster for main tv0 -

Only as far as you'll need another cable from the dish into your bedroom, assuming you only want a standard digibox.Dave. :wave:0 -

You can shift a sky box from one room to another after installation but it means extending the dish cable so you've got to find a way to get the wire from the original room to the new room. This should work OK in most cases. It's not hard to make a dish cable yourself if you're reasonably handy.
Another option is when you have multi-room installed, get it wired into two rooms but just buy the one decoder box. An independent installer will probably do this for you. There's a couple of ways to go about it. Then you can just shift the box from one room to another if you change your mind.0 -
Thank you all for your replies, much appreciated.
Got plenty to ponder on now....0
