Just discovered a book I'm selling is out of print

And it's worth some upwards of £50!
It's Hungarian Vizsla's by Gay Gottlieb, I was going to put it on ebay - but perhaps it's not the best place for it?
Would I be better putting it for sale on a specialist website?
Or will it be worth even more, if I kept it? money's tight at the moment, hence trying to raise some funds by selling bits and bobs, but if I put this book away, would it be worth more in a number of years? if so, I'll pass it on to my daughter.
It's in excellent condition - I don't think I've done more that glance at the pictures!

with something like that I think you would be better off listing either on amazon or a specialist website, but certainly if you feel that its going to increase in value and you don't want to sell it then pass it onCambridgeshire Based Photographer
Positive thinking will get you everywhere0 -
Personally if it is this one I owuld put it on Amazon straight away:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Hungarian-Vizsla-World-Dogs/dp/1852791047/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1242134765&sr=8-1
The sales rank shows it actually does sell, although there is no way of knowing how much for. The hting that conerns me is that the two existing sellers are known for massively inflating their prices, so there is an outside chance the last few copies went for pennies.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. There's one on bookfinder at £41 so definitely worth a punt on Amazon.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Thanks for your replies, this is the book that I have
http://www.bookfinder.com/dir/i/Complete_Hungarian_Vizsla/0948955325/
it's just weighing things up really, £50 is a lot of money to put towards bills, but then again - if it's worth that now, maybe it will be worth more in the future.
I've never sold anything on Amazon before, but I do have a 'buying' account so I'll look into that.0 -
Personally , and it might be worth noting that I am the worst bookseller in the world, I wouldn't hang on to a book published that recently. The value is because it is scarce, not because it is a rare fine example. If this had been a Dickens 1st or something then yes it is likely to increase in value as there can never be more, this is a recently published book, if the publisher sells its plates some other house could do a reprint and churn them out in their thousands.
I've had books like this where the Amazon headline figure has been around £100 when I aquired the book, yet I've ended up selling for less than a tenner as people hunt out their own copies or find them in charity shops.
The best book I ever sold was £99.99 for an extremely rare German written novel published in the UK in 1962.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. ok, thank you for your advice!
It's going on amazon!
I wondered why it was out of print, as they're are still many owners with that breed of dog who may be looking for some literature so it makes sense that in the future this book may go back into print!0 -
The print run may have been small or the plates damaged.
This book for instance:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Story-LONDON-BUS-KEN-BLACKER/dp/B0017RQMXE/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1242160418&sr=8-9
Usually sells for well over £100 if you ever come across a copy, I have paid £97 as a gift for someone for a copy and that was the cheapest I ever saw it. When a book gets listed anywhere it tends to get a mention in the bus collector magazines which helps put the price up!I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
