offer from British Gas
Hi Martin,
Today I have received an offer from British Gas to sign up until April 2007 by paying a small price protection payment of 3.5% on my current gas price (this means they say I will pay an average of 29p per week) Even if gas prices go up I will not pay the higher price. In the event I want to leave before 2007 I have to pay a cancellation fee. I have never changed gas supply ever would value your comments.

British Gas's gas prices are by far the highest throughout the country. So you would be paying an extra 3.5% on top of an already high price, to protect against future price increases which might not happen, and removing your ability to leave them.
I would use a comparison service like https://www.u-switch.co.uk to ascertain the best supplier for your circumstances and then switch. It's best if you have a year's worth of bills so that you can see how many kWh of gas you have used, but you can do it based on your payments in cash terms if you don't have the full info.

This offer just somehow seems to be a voluntary price increase. As British Gas are eager to push it, it must work in their favour - particulary with the lock in - they get the money whatever.0

The prices that bgas charge are way over the top and by signing with them u are locked in. they prices may never go up that far so you could be worse off.... becarefulFiliss0

I found British Gas to be terrible, they were bad for customer service, robbed me of early payment discounts, didn;t answer any letters and have still not passed on my final electric meter reading to Powergen.0
