I am 22 yrs , and I felt stomach pain 2 weeks ago ( only twice a week) . I havent see my GP yet or discussed the same symptom before. I want a endoscopy or ultrasound diagnose test to have investigative work . It'll take two months average waiting time to see a specialist and arrange follow up test .So I want join the Bupa today for a private hospital consultation . I know that the Bupa is not going to cover the pre-existing condition. The Bupa cover plan I will choose Bupa select 2 which cover the first consultation (no limit) out-patient diagnostic tests therapies and are related to eligible in-patient or day-patient treatment.

I dont have any pre-existing condition , and I will not tell Bupa my stomach pain since 2 weeks ago , just join in the Bupa today ,and the policy will start on me same day . Can I ask my GP referral a private hospital consultation and diagose test ,then claim the cover from Bupa ?By my opinion ,the insurance policy should cover my new non-existing condition , and they dont know the time I catched the stomach pain ,you can have a pain anytime maybe just same day after join the Bupa .But Bupa is company to make profit, Will Bupa refuse this cover because I only join for week , not in a aproved qualify period . Do they classify the symptom period ?

PMI (Private medical insurance) like most other insurances are to insure you against unforeseen events. The insurance needs to be in place before the condition arises or it is classed as a pre- existing condition and in this case at least should not be eligible to be claimed upon.

It is like crashing your car, then buying your insurance for a couple of hundred pounds then expecting them to pay you out thousands just because you are now an insured member. It doesn't work like that, the insurance needs to be in place before the event.

With PMI the only way they can check is via your GP file so yes if your condition is not yet documented and you say that you only started getting this stomache ache after your Bupa join date, there is a chance you can get away with it because it is possible. However this is trying to swindle an insurance company (fraud) and Bupa are going to be mighty suspicious when you join today and claim almost immeadiately. They may obtain medical reports from the medical specialists who may be able to prove that your condition was sustained well before you claimed it was.

I would advise you not to do this, you could land yourself in big trouble i.e. court or worse (jail).

according to bupa thought a pre exisiting medical condition is one that is diagnosed by a dr or other medical condition ..
when i was signing up they asked about my back and if i had seen a dr and he told me if i had not seen a dr then i could get the insurance then request to bee seen privatly

Even if you get BUPA cover its not guaranteed your doctor will refer you. You have to be referred by your GP and if he thinks its not serious or can find nothing wrong you won't get referred. They don't just refer you willy nilly as soon as you say you have PMI....well not where I live they don't.

For example.....I saw a GP in August last year as I had a lump come up on my forehead. She diagnosed a cyst of some type. I was told it will go away on its own. I kept going back as it was getting bigger and was still painful. Eventually my GP referred me in Sept and I saw a BUPA specialist in Oct.
The specialist said the same thing, it was a cyst that would go on its own.
Well it didn't and was getting even more painful so I asked to have it removed. I had it removed last Thurs.

Why on earth don't you just go to your dr & get them to refer you to hospital for tests? If the dr thinks it's something serious they will put it in the referal letter & you'll be seen as soon as they can fit you in.

What makes you think it is something serious anyway, without yet getting a medical opinion? I know if I was worried about anything, I'd be straight down to my gp.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.
