Advice On Using Mobile While Working Abroad

Hi,
My partners daughter is going to work in Malia/Crete (Greece) while on her summer break from University.
Can anybody advice on the best way to use a mobile while there. She will mainly be communicating back to UK using text, only making calls if there is an emergency.
What's best: (Currently On Orange)
Keep her current contract (Up for renewal in July)
Change to one of the pay monthly Sim cards
Obtain a Sim card local once in Malia
Obtain a Global Sim card
Would appreciate any advice.
Thanks
Robert

in my opinion the best way out of all the 4 is to Obtain a Sim card local once in Malia.
I'm sure there are PAYG operators out there, and it is probably the easiest way. You can call her, if there are any emergencies or news from home you know she wants to hear, and she won't be worrying about the incoming call cost, if she used a UK sim.
I'm not a huge fan of the Global sims, they just seem overly expensive when i've compared them to a local sim0 -
If she had internet access when she is there she can use skype and call for free . I would think that the best idea is to get a local sim card and use that thats what my children do. She can use internet cafes as well to keep in touch. Hope she has a great time.0

I guess she'll want to be able to communicate easily with other people on the island while she's there, so a local SIM is probably the best option. Should cost about 6p/min for you to call her using a discount provider.
The only other option I would consider is getting her an O2 SIM card and paying £10/month for My Europe Extra (http://www.o2international.co.uk/callingfromoverseas/myeurope_extra.aspx), so that she can receive calls for free and make them for 25p/min (up to 1000mins/month). A quick look on the web suggests that mobile calls with Greek SIM cards are quite expensive, so 25p/min isn't all that bad really. As she would still have a UK number it would mean that people with a UK mobile could call her within their inclusive minutes, but it would obviously be harder for people in Greece to call her.Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks
On a rotating plate, with spikes like Flash Gordon
And you're Peter Duncan; I gave you fair warning0 -
