Booking flights with an egg credit card

Hi, I have an egg visa credit card which currently has a zero balance.

I am looking to book some flights but they cost more than my credit card limit.

I want to book the flights via credit rather than debit card as then I believe I am protected if the airline goes bust. Is this correct?

Does anyone know if I would be covered if I transfer enough money onto my egg card so that i have a +ive balance and then book the flights on the egg credit card and then pay the remainder of the balance off after the flights are booked?

Thanks

    Yes you can.

But at the same time look at Travel Insurance so you will be more than covered.

Out of curiosity what is the airline?

Thanks, will probably do that and will make sure am covered with insurance as well.

The airline would be Hawaiin Airlines, so not exactly a massive airline.

But one of the oldest airlines still flying today.

That said a quick bit of research showed they did file for CH.11 Bankruptcy a few years back so definitely worth the cautioned approach.
If you give your flight times/dates ill have a quick look to see if you are getting the best deal if you like.

Flying San Fransisco to Honolulu, found flights on Travelocity.com departing 26/8/09 returning 2/9/09 although dates are fairly flexible.

I've just searched again and the hotels seem to have changed and the one we looked at isnt there, but the cheapest is $522 per person for flights and 7 nights.

It seems cheaper to fly on the 24/27/28/30 Aug. Return flight is coming back at $365 with Hawaiin. Thats $730 so if you are getting the flights and hotel at $1044, unless you can find a better hotel for $314 then you have found a good deal id say.

Call Egg and ask them to increase the credit limit. If you explain what it's for and maybe ask them to reduce it again in a few months once you've paid some of it off they might agree, after all it's more money in their pockets.
