Simple charge query

Hey all,

I've read through the main article and thankfully i haven't been charged extortionate amounts, this just relates to a small charge. Good luck to all those getting there money back! let's hope the FOS (if that's what its called?!) makes their minds up soon.

I have a problem with Abbey. I have a student overdraft with them and regret to say I'm at the tail end of it. This has meant that a few times in the last 12 months i have accidentally gone over my overdraft limit, nothing major, maybe £15, £30 or something each time. Every time i have noticed it within a week, immediately put the money back in and gone in to the abbey branch to see if i would be charged. every time they tell me no, I'm fine no charges on the system. Yet when the end of the month comes Abbey ALWAYS whack an 2 overdrawn limits on me. So far I have phoned up very angrily and got the charges revoked because of what i was told in the branch and so far so good, all charges have been reimbursed. I just want this to STOP happening. Is there anything I can do? I now have to phone them up again today because they have done it yet again....

Cheers for any input you can have,

Tommy.

This is gonna sound sarcastic but the obvious thing to say is not to go over the overdraft in the first place because that is what is triggering the charges. Abbey are being quite nice waiving the charges all the time so while they are doing that it's all fine.

  • @ staffmember,

That is indeed the ideal solution! In fact now that i have my money matters in order (thanks to MSE) I won't be going overdrawn again. I was just wondering what i could do if they turned around and said no, we've waved the fees too many times, not again, even if i've been told at the bank that there wasn't a charge to my account?

well, hypothetically, I'd reclaim the charges depending on how far we are with the OFT test case.
