    hello

my son as a baby use to be very sick on milk so for the first two years i cut out dairy but he is ok with it now but then i was the same so it must be a family thing.

the boy can have things like pink waffers as i spoke to her about it the other day but she wasn't very helpful just said he couldn't have things like chocolate spread but usually uses soya items instead so i can handle that i just dont know how to make it look more exciting.

    thanks for the advice :)

It doesn't appear that this mother is being very helpful, but you are bending over backwards to accomodate this boy on what is your sons big day, and should be about him and what he wants to eat!

You haven't said if it is a party with other children or just your son and this friend? If a party, I would ask her to send him along with his own food, so that the other children can have what you would normally serve.

    hello

its my sons 4th this saturday and his best friend has to have everything dairy free so far i have come up with :
    • bread
    • jam
    • ham
    • soya butter
    • juice
    • lemonade
    • salt and vinagar crisps and ready salted crisps
    • hot dogs (son's request)
but that seems a rather naff food list any ideas would be really good!

    thanks in advance.

you can get soya cheese so dependant on others make up cheese pineapples, cheese sarnies or even better home made pizzas using that cheese instead. why not use it for everyone as then the little boy can eat everything the same as everyone else. if you were going for traditional jelly and icecream if i was doing it id use veggie jelly (im vegetarian so know about these problems) and dairy free icecream - everyonce can have the same. also you can get dairy free milkshakes so you could do them for everyone.

I presume he is ok witk dark chocolate as no milk so get some mini dark choc bars and sweets he can eat for everyone as well.

if you wanted completely different food for everyone you could do wraps (if it was me id be doing veggie chilli for everyone) and then soya cheese, salsa and rice and nice salads so everyone can help themselves. he can eat all of that as long as you dont get any sourcream. perfect esepcially if you get breadsticks for them to dip in salsas :)

Apparently the iced 'party ring' biscuits are dairy free.

I think it's really great that you are trying to include him properly, so that he can eat everything there, too.

I once saw two kids on a train. The one came from a well off family and was there with an i pod or similiar, other kid looked on jealously, then the other kids mother gave her some cheap delicious looking crisps, sandwiches and chocolate, cue jealous expressions the other way, not halted by the carrot sticks, but the grapes did do the trick!

I would say that the poster who said everything including hot dog sausages can have milk in is right. Until you start looking, you just don't realise. I had a vegan friend at Uni, which is different but similiar and she had was it carob bars.. but the angel delight didn't det with soya milk... (Although tasted nice like chocolate soup....)

there is milk and milk derivatives in a lot of things, best to be careful.
The boy's mum might be embarrassed about 'causing a fuss' and that's why she comes across unhelpful.
I'm vegan, so is my son, and i find it tricky when people ask 'what does he eat' - he eats loads of different things but it's long winded explaining it all!.
I think you are doing a lovely thing, OP, trying so hard, it's easy for others to be dismissive but the boy with the allergy can't help his problem x.
