Electricity meter board

I would like to know who is responsible for attaching the electricity meter to the wall. I presume it is the property owner, but hope that it is the electricity company!
My existing one has disintegrated.

AFAIK the meter is the porperty and responsibility of the energy company, however the government wants us all to have shiny new smart meters so it should be getting replaced anyway.LBM 26th April 2009 Debts at LBM £7777.49:eek:

I never knew that, you live and learn, I imagine replacing it would normaly require input from your supplier though. Or can it be done without removing the meter fues?LBM 26th April 2009 Debts at LBM £7777.49:eek:

Not sure - I've never tried!
I expect it would involve them, probably for a 'fee'...British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -
In my kitchen the fuse box is mounted about seven foot up, but a large board was located at about two foot below to accommodate a card meter. When I moved in I had it swapped for a credit meter which was a fraction of the size. I unscrewed the board, cut it with a saw (being very careful not to chop any wires) and then remounted it up along with the meter and incoming fuse. Its all nicely boxed away now - the cables are just routed around above the meter. Whenever the meter is next replaced, I'll just ask them to trim down the cables whilst they're at it (after all it was like that when I moved in...

Normally you would have to have the fuse removed.
The last one I moved was hung on a screw, but there are also a couple of screws holding it in position and these are behind the cover that protects the meter tails, so you have to remove the anti tamper link to get at them!0
