Bought wrong item, what now?

Hello,
I have a bit of a problem. I did a buy-it-now on Ebay, but then discovered that the item was totally unsuitable for what I bought it for. I know that I should have read the description thoroughly, but I was rushing before the sale ended.
I haven't paid for the item yet, so is there anything I can do to get out of the sale?
Best wishes

You pretty much have to throw yourself on the mercy of the seller. You can't be too apologetic here - right now you have cost them fees.
If they aren't sympathetic, ebay morals say you have to buy, then resell... or risk a strike. My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0 -
What is a strike? Sellers can't leave negs for buyers.
I would email the seller and explain. The quickest way to double your money is to fold it in half and put it back in your pocket.0 -
Thanks very much for the quick replies.
I have emailed the seller explaining and offering to pay the Ebay fees incurred. I'll just have to wait and see if the seller replies to me.0 -

A strike is more damaging to a buyer than a neg. Seller does an NPB on the buyer and leaves a non paying strike that is registered on buyers account. Two of those and you are pretty much banning yourself from ebay as most sellers have their settings enabled to prevent people with two or more strikes from bidding.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Hello,
Just thought I would leave an update. The seller has now replied to my message that they are willing to cancel the transaction if I were to pay the £2.00 administration fees and leave positive feedback, which I am quite willing to do.0 -
Sounds fair enough to me.0

Why are you paying them when they can cancel the sale (provided you agree) and get their fee's back?!Baby Boy arrived March 25th 2010 - 17 days late & 8lb 10oz :j0
