Do you use "white" & "coloured" laundry powder/tablets/liquid?

My friend used to use Sainsburys own brand powder & her washing was always lovely.
I might give it a sniff.0 -
I use Asda smartprice powder for colours and whichever big brand powder is on offer for whites. If i remember i add a bit of washing soda to the colours and i always use vinegar for conditioner - not white but any supermarkets smart price equivalent for around 13p a bottle.
I use around half the recommended amount and the laundy is always lovely and clean, i keep meaning to try the grated bar of soap thing but haven`t got around to it yet.

DD skin is quite sensitive. It doesn't get terribly bad but her cheeks and around her mouth seems to get a little red and dry if she has been in too much contact with clothes washed in bio stuff. So I use whatever non-bio is on special (Persil tablets at the mo.) I usually always do a short 30C cycle, unless it is a particularly larger load in which case I do a longer cycle. I tried Stardrops on the dark stuff for a couple of weeks which seemed to keep the colour in the clothes really well, but it irritated DD's skin so I had to start with the powder again.
The difference is for mine and DH's whites (mainly underwear and DH's shirts for work) I use a bio powder on a hotter wash to keep them nice and white. I always tended to use Surf as it is usually cheaper - I got a giant box on offer about a year ago which is still going
I with you guys who don't like an overpowering smell from the washing powder. A faint delicate one is ok thoBecuase I tend to use about half of the recommended amount on the pack, I think it gives just enough of a fragrance. I was very kindly given some clothes by a lovely friend and despite being washed at least twice, I can still detect the smell of my friend's washing powder on a couple of the garments. I tend to think that if I am going to be wearing deoderant and perfume, I don't want the clothes clashing as well.
Love and compassion to all x0 -

I'm amazed at the number of people who said this.
I LOVE the smell of washing powder & fabric conditioner, that fresh soapy smell of clean washing:D
I buy Ariel coloured because it has the strongest smell of all the coloured ones (plus it cleans well).
I'm also suprised that more people don't buy Daz for whites, I would have thought Daz the biggest seller for whites.0 -
I use either Ariel colour liquid tabs, or Tesco/Asda own brand ones. Being old goths, we have a lot of black clothes and I've found they don't fade as quickly using the colour tabs. I also use them for my whites washes too.
I use the liquid ones because I've found that the powder tabs don't dissolve properly in a quick 30degree wash.
Now thats proof, you would know:D
With the disolving thing, I think that can be down to the machine, as they get older they sometimes don't disolve so well.0 -

I do too - but not so strong it hurts my nose :rotfl: I like my perfume more than my washing powder scent
You are right tho... you just can't beat the fresh smell of clothes in off the lineLove and compassion to all x0 -
I use a cheapo own brand bio tablet for whites at the moment, but it's just not cutting it
My cream bedding is coming out distinctly yellow and I don't wanna talk about the whites _pale_
I'm not really into the OS laundry stuff at the moment so I'm a bit clueless... if you were to suggest something I should sling into the machine for better whites, what would it be?My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0 -

Hi fay,
I use half washing powder and half soda crystals (in the same aisle as the washing powder and only costs about 75p/kg). It produces much better results than the washing powder alone.
There's more information on this thread that might help:
Mixing soda crystals with laundry powder???
