Cant seem to alter the size of columns in a Table! Help

Can anybody help? Ive put a table in Word (using office 2007) and for some reason I cant alter the width of the columns or rows. I must have pressed something or done something cos Ive been able to do it before! What have I done and how do I change it back!! Please help!
TIA!

    Hi Heath84,

I have some experience with word, but I'm not an expert. Can you open a new table?

If you go onto the table and right click to tab marks appear on the top margin line? If desperate pm me your email and I will get back and you can send it.

yeah i can open a new table, I opened a new doc up and put a table in but again I cant change the width or highlight things. I emailed it to my brother but everything was fine when he opened it, so its something Ive done to change the settings on my computer/word. I reckon I must have pressed some combination of keys thats done some kind of shortcut thingy!

not totally sure what you mean, there are marks on the ruler which when i hover over them say 'move table column' but if i click on them it wont move them at all.

It doesn't say (read-only) against the name of the spreadsheet (top left in 2003)?

If you right click on the table can you do the auto fit option?

If you are trying to enlarge one, then you may need to make one smaller first.
