    Upgrade to firefox. ;)
Ubuntu is an ancient African word, meaning: 'I can't configure Debian'.

I tried it a while ago it screwed my Internet banking amongst other things, now I get a reminder to upgrade every day (since the latest update) but I'm steering clear, anyone know how to stop the upgrade request????

I can't remember exactly, but you need to go to Windows Update via your Start Menu, chose Express (recommended) or similar.
Let it scan, it will then show IE8, somewhere next to IE8 will be a box stating
'hide this update' tick the box.
Sorry I can't be more accurate but I hope you get the general direction.
    Move along, nothing to see.

To be fair IE8 is a decent internet browser, people like to moan about Microsoft products just because its Microsoft. Personally i would go with firefox because the plugins you can get for that can make using the internet much easier and enjoyable!! :)

I shall stick to firefox. I'm sure that there is many bugs that still needed to be fixed in this new version.

You do find that an awful lot..

Anyway OP, set a restore point and install it. If you like it, keep it. If not, roll back. That's what System Restore is for!

My own personal experience of IE is generally positive. There are still aspects that I think it's lacking, for example an inline spell check, but 8 is a vast improvement over 7 in terms of speed and security. Just remember where the button for Compatibility Mode is, you might have to use it although my own use of it has been infrequent.
