My wifes motor has started acting oddly. Its a W reg Skoda Felicia 1.3. It drives absolutely fine but we have noticed a burnt rubber sort of smell when you get out of the car. It tends to be at the back. It has a 2 year old exhaust which seems OK. Any ideas what what you it could be?

Plastic bag wrapped around the exhaust?
Sticky handbrake?0 -
If anything the handbrake on a felicia is crap and the shoe auto-adjusters never work properly.
A common problem with the Felicia is the spring cups on the shock absorbers failing due to corrosion. If the bottom one fails, the ride height is significantly lower and the spring may well rub the tyre causing a burning rubber smell. So have a good look at the shock absorber/spring. If the bottom spring cup is gone you need new shock absorbers (often cheap on ebay, favorit ones are exactly the same on the rears - unless you have a pickup version). If the top spring cup is gone they're under £2 each from the dealers. The only specialist tool you need to replace either is coil spring compressors - in addition to a decent socket set, some spanners and a jack and axle stands.0 -
