Should our direct debit for phone be cancelled?

My girlfriend took a contract with Virgin Media for phone line and internet about a year ago, bills have always been around £16 per month.
Last month we got no bill but £26 came out of my girlfriends account, this month a bill has come saying we have to pay £32!!!
I know we used the phone this month where as usually we dont the calls came to about £5 so it looks like again we are paying an extra £10 like last month.
Usually the bill lists what we have and then takes deductions for having multiple packaged etc... this bill is not showing all the deductions we usually have but we have had no letter saying there is a price increase. I assume that this is also what happened last month, either the price went up or the deductions we have had on every other bill have not been added.
The money is due to come out of the account 2mora, my girlfriend is saying she is going to cancel the direct debit using online banking tonight because she does not want then taking all that money then us having to fight to get it back.
Tried calling virgin but were on hold for ages, so she e-mailed and we are waiting for a reply, do you think she is right to cancel it or let it go out and then try and get money back?

Can't you view your account and invoice online?
I think you'll find that you can't cancel the direct debit at 24 hours notice anyway-the request will already have been put through by Virgin a couple of day before the withdrawl is due.No free lunch, and no free laptop
