Multi Country European Car Hire
I plan to drive the alps for 2 weeks this August, starting in Zurich and ending in Milan, with Germany and Austria in between. Car hire companies don't seem to look upon this favourably.
All the main car rentals currently charge a one way 'drop off fee' which adds an additional 20-30% to the total cost.
Does anyone know of any promo vouchers / discounts currently going for summer 09 or any other methods to bring the cost down?
Cheapest so far is Europcar.
Thanks.
Dan

Check www.flyertalk.com and look into the car rental forum. Plenty USA based codes you can use in Europe.0

OK it was 1992 when I did it, but Hertz didn't charge me an additional fee for Zurich pick up, Paris drop off. Ordered well in advance. I picked up a much higher grade of car in Zurich than I ordered, it was French registered so I was taking it back home to Paris over our 2 week holiday :cool:0

so much cheaper if you can leave it back at the same place! Zurich is not that far from milan you know, 3-4 hours if I remember correctly.
Or have you already booked flights?
also do you even need a car for the whole time? the trains are incredible and fast in that part of the world0 -
I'm with michael on this one, Zurich isn't that far from Milan & there are good trains in that part of Europe, if you haven't already booked flights I'd be inclined to leave from Zurich too. It might be a bit more hassle at the end of the holiday but if it's going to save you 20-30% on your car hire I'd say it's well worth it!I plan to drive the alps for 2 weeks this August, starting in Zurich and ending in Milan, with Germany and Austria in between. Thanks for the tips...
Unfortunately, we fell for the super cheap Ryanair and Easyjet sales with the total return cost of flights inc. taxes coming in at under £40.
Have tried some of the car rental promotional discount codes though and these work....
Anyone know a code for reducing the drop-off fee or overall cost in some other way?
