Who do you recommend for finance on a laptop?

I need a laptop for music production and i'm thinking of getting one on finance. The issue is i am on incapacity benefit. ebuyer and apple both said i am eligible to apply so i'm wondering what other companies offer finance to people who are in receipt of these benefits. Are there any that offer lower interest rates and more flexible repayment options with good prices? 36 months does seem quite common and it does add quite a lot to the overall total. I have been successful when applying for other things (which was really surprising given that i am on benefits) so my credit rating is much better than i thought. I want to maintain a good record and i am a bit wary of dell after some of the things i read on here. So who else do you recommend for someone in my situation? I spoke to Dell as i was typing this and they said they would run through a credit check to see if i would pass but i was unsuccessful. :( All they took was my address and time i've lived there and length of time i've been with my bank. 8 and 4 years respectively so what gives? That was without applying for anything! :-/

Do you seriously expect to make money from "Music Production" in the current financial climate?? How much do you earn doing it now?? How much profit will you make per. month from the work, realistically??

What have you allowed for software costs for the work & what packages have you selected??

    Cheers!

No. It's hard enough in a healthy financial climate. I make music for myself with plans to do some live pa this year. I use a lot software of (ableton live plus softsynths and fx etc) so i ned a powerful machine to run it all. I already have all the other gear so it's just a laptop i need. Finance is a good option as it will allow me to spread the payments; the incapacity benefit i get doesn't go far but i do ok. Don't worry i can afford it.;)

If it goes well maybe i can make some money from it but i'm not doing it for that. Either way i still need a laptop! Cheers.

You right and that's what i'm thinking of doing. I asked because i thought there might be better options with shorter terms but there is the issue of computer technology becoming obselete so quickly these days. 36 months is way too long for a laptop thst costs £500 but of course i realise it's for the interest.

My current laptop is secondhand and works well for the most part but is a little underpowered. I'm upgrading the ram anyway so i'll see gives it the boost it needs.

I do have the option to get a laptop on finance in the future but i'm paying something off right now and want to make a few more payments before i look at anything else so i probably will get something secondhand in the meantime then i'm covered either way. Only reason i'm looking at finance is because i'm trying to save some money.

    Cheers.

i see what you mean... there are other ways like mobile upgrades with free laptops... or mobile broadband with free laptops (usually 24 months).

or like u said increase the specs on ur own one.

are you a student? they do laptop discounts and rental deals...

Music production, like video production needs a fast machine, and NO laptop is up to the job if you are at amateur/pro level. Anyone who takes out finance on a PC or laptop is asking for trouble, the depreciation on IT equipment is worse than on a new car.

If you can work, why not come off benefits and do an office job?

That' what i'm going to do. Ram has been upgraded and dual core processors can be had for not much on ebay. I've just done a fresh install anyway and it would be a hassle to set up a new system. I'll save my credit for something else.

I personally wouldn't do it (again).

I did this when I was 18, ended up paying far more than it was actually worth. Additionally the loan outlived the laptop by a long time, it really is rather depressing paying monthly installments for something that you have not owned for years.
