What to do about a default.

in Credit cards
I purchased a DVD player and a refrigerator from Powerhouse in 2002 and 2003 respectively. Both items were purchased on credit taken with First National. Almost immediately after purchase, the DVD player broke down and was collected through the cover plan I had taken out on it.
At this point, I had just begun the process of building a new house and asked Pwerhouse to keep the DVD player (and also eventually the fridge) in storgage until my new house was completed.
Unfortunately, this did not happen until late 2004, by which time, Powerhouse had gone into receivership.
Being the naive and, at the time, ignorant fool I was, I carried on paying for the items I was never going to receive. Eventually I decided to stop the payments and as a result I got a default on one of the accounts.
These defaults were 5 years ago now. Should I just forget it until it falls off next year? Or, should I chase this up with First National as I am never going to receive the goods?
Unfortunately, I have no paperwork left from this-I tend to bury these situations rather then deal with them.
