Benefit Eligibility

I'm a student that's graduating soon, and I have a job sorted to start in September. Can I claim any sort of job seeker's allowance or other benefit just over the summer? None of the forms seem to have boxes for this - but it must happen to a large number of people due to begin graduate training schemes, as they usually start in Sept/Oct.

Cheers!

  • you won't be eligable for contributions based JSA (as i have failed this because a months or two overlap when I was at uni - or so they say) Try income based JSA depends on ur living arrangements and if u r receiving any income at present or expected so such as student loans, grants, employment wage or any other benefits. If you are 'unemployed' at present, then go to your local Job centre and sign on as this pays for you NI contributions (this can effect you in future circumstances if you don't sign on ... it'll entail more hassle). From there they can set up a JSA claim for you, but until you can at least claim that you won't be elligable for other benefits

You may be eligible for CB JSA if you have worked whilst at university. Many students do qualify.

OP, can you not get a job for the summer?
    Gone ... or have I?

And, of course, you must be actively seeking work to be able to claim JSA.
