Car hire from Porto

Hi,
I found a really good flight deal, 2 adults, 1 child and an infant, costing £120 to porto bang in the middle of the summer school hols, then found quite a few good villas/apartments for around £350 for the week, so far so good, and looked like I would be able to get a nice holiday for the 4 of us for under £600, now looking at car hire, and its around £230 for a week (more than my flights! lol)
Can anyone reccommend any car hire companies that are not too expensive or any discount codes, there are cheaper cars but too small, we need the size of a focus minimum or if a small car one that can take 2 normal sized suitcases.
Many thanks

If you booked with ryanair, there should be a discount hertz link included with your confirmation e mail?Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

hi,
not booked it yet as it really all depends on the car hire, if its going to cost so much we may have to rethink, but without the link the cheapest with hertz was about £200 and that was for a small car, and i mean small, so even with the discount i think it will still be the more expensive ones.
I used to get discount codes for car hire all the time with my visa or mastercard, I cant seem to find any now :-(0 -
Do you need to take a lot of stuff for your child and infant?
There may be some infant stuff in the accommodation.
These best deals in car hire are at popular airports such as Alicante, Malaga and the car hire is much cheaper.
I've been looking at prices for a small airport and the best I could find for a Focus is about £220 for a week.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0 -
I know, i just presumed it would be prices similar to Spain, I suppose we could travel "light" as the villa has a washing machine and it will hopefully be hot so the clothes dry quick, in fairness its me and my load that takes up the space, hubby and big son take hand luggage, and i usually let the baby have my hand luggage allowance, i then have the big suitcase for all my cr*p, but as it will be summer and will probalby just live in my sandals and shorts i may be able to just take a hand luggage size, even though i will have to pay fot it:rolleyes:
if I go down that route then we couldf get away with a micra or something, we had a C3 in Majorca last month and we just managed to squeeze in the pram, 3 hand luggage and big suitcase, but the c3 has a deep boot, may not bee so lucky with a fiesta or clio

Exactly, tis the way to save money.
Saving on bag fees and car hire costs, double saving.
There should be a bit of space in the car on the side where the infant will be.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0 -
Yeah, that's quite often the way, guess car hire places at the bigger airports get more custom which has got to help cover the overheads.Do you need to take a lot of stuff for your child and infant?

hoxtonbabe, have you tried looking at other places (relatively) near the airport? It might mean a train journey to get to the car hire place, which admitedly isn't everyone's ideal way to start a holiday, but if it means the difference between being able to afford the holiday or not, it may be worth looking into.
Best of luck with finding something!
