VOSA charges
Hi all,
Can anyone explain to me why I'm being charged £75 to MOT my 7.5t horsebox? It's private use only - so no hire or reward - and my mechanic took one last week to the same test centre and it was £51.
VOSA tried to explain that it's due to the operator licence costs going down but I don't have an operator licence.
I can't call the test centre direct to find out as the number has been changed to go straight through to VOSA - who I've already found out, aren't much help.
Any ideas?

The MOTing of HGV's / PSV's has always been self funding. As the OP with the horsebox was told VOSA is speading some of the costs of Operator Licensing over all HGV owners. This is rather unfair on the non O Licence owners, but they too come under the watchful eye of the Enforcement side of VOSA who keep our roads safe and need to be paid for. There was a consultation period for this from the 6th Nov - 29th January. It was in all the commercial motoring magazines and I should imagine that it was in magazines like Horse & Hound.
Anyhow, do you think paying £51 for an HGV, which was less than the maximum fee of £53.10 (now £54) for a car is right?0
