New to Diesel car, advice on oil needed

Hope somebody can help me. Just bought a diesel Fiat (Idea 1.3 multijet) and i've only ever had petrol engines. Can somebody reccommend a diesel oil for future use. There is 31,000 on the clock and it's all fine at present but need advice for future maintainence.

asda 5litres motor oil £8 should do the job what we use for fleet vehicles never had any problems

I wouldn't worry about it too much.
I usually specify a semi-synthetic oil.
Check the oil change intervals in the handbook. Older diesels used to specify oil changes as regularly as 6000mls, but my renault now states 18000mls. I wouldn't let it go more than 12000 without an oil change, but that is just me.

bad info, check for correct grade as the wrong viscosity can wreck your engine

And invalidate your warrenty if you have one

Multijet engines must only use 5w-40 oil to the following specs; ACEA B4, API CF and Fiat 9.55535-M2.

Yep, my mistake, i assumed the OP was asking for a particular manufacturer of oil .
Obviously, as has been corrected for me, please ensure that it is the correct viscosity.
