Mobile insurance - have I messed up?

Sorry if I've posted this is in the wrong place; I wasn't sure where was more appropriate.
I took out a mobile contract in March and bought a years insurance from foneGuard at the same time. Being a lousy drunk I lost my phone on Friday after a night on the tiles. As far as I know I'm covered for accidental loss, but when I looked at the documents I'd been sent I noticed there was a form I was meant to have signed with proof of my IMEI number and sent back. I've sent this back now, but what I'm unsure about is whether this will prevent me from making a claim?
In my usual slap-dash manner I just had a quick look through the contents of the envelope and noticed there was certificate of insurance that said it started in March when I bought it online along with a receipt for the transaction. I thought this meant I was covered but now I'm not so sure.
So far I've only contacted T-Mobile to block the phone and SIM card. I still need to contact the police in case it turns up as lost property.
So, am I screwed? :embarasse

Phone the insurer and ask about the claim form error. If your certificate of insurance is a years contract starting in March, and you lost the phone now in May, then to be honest it seems you won't be covered. There is a possibility that the contract auto-renewed. Did they take another payment for another years cover?0

They just took a payment for this year. Wouldn't that mean I'm covered for this year? I'm admittedly naive when it comes to stuff like this. I only took it out because the phone's worth a lot. I just called Essex Police and they wouldn't even take my details let alone give me a reference number so it seems like I'm screwed anyway.
Anyone got a cheap phone they want to sell me?0
