Problem reinstalling java

I was having trouble with a programme that uses Java (it was Arachnophilia, the HTML editor) so I decided to uninstall both Arachnophilia and Java and then reinstall them. All worked fine except that one instance of Java in the registry would not delete, so I used the Windows Install Clean Up utility to get rid of it. However I am still having problems installing Java. Prior to using the clean up utility, it refused to let me install saying there was another version of Java I needed to remove first. After using the clean up utility, it says Java is installed, do i want to reinstall. I say yes, then it says this is only possible for products that are already installed.

Any ideas?
TIA

I seem to have solved the problem.
I ran regedit and deleted all the java references.0
